Aubrey Calaway is an artist and curator based in Portland, Maine. Moving between performance, visual art, and writing, his work focuses on how sex, reality, and the human are controlled in contemporary American culture. Calaway currently serves as the founding director of the Violet Institute for Contemporary Trans Culture. Born in Houston, Texas, he mantains close ties to southeast Texas, New York City, and Los Angeles.
